the HAPPY concluded the UWW Base Program directed by the Club de Luchas Olimpicas Power de Torredelcampo (Jaén) in Andalusia.
The Power club welcomed more than 150 children from 3 to 14 years old each week. Thanks to the funding received by the Grassroot program of the UWW, the club promoted Olympic wrestling to attract young people to practice wrestling at this prestigious club.
Between 2018 and 2019, various activities were carried out to familiarize children and young people with the sport as well as various activities, including wrestling. The program was open to all young people and children, including young people at risk of social exclusion. Trainings were carried out in a wide variety of sports and different sports and social activities; like swimming, hiking, and wrestling.
The president of FELUCHA Javier Iglesias Serna expressed himself as follows:
“The objective of the joint initiative was to create a variety of cross-cutting activities to involve youth and children in this part of the country. We want future generations to feel considered, and part of the wrestling family. "
Educational sessions were also given to physical education teachers on techniques, nutrition, psychology, keeping the focus on wrestling as a valuable educational tool.
"We are very happy and excited about the results of such small initiatives," said UWW Director of Development Deqa NIAMKEY.
“The Spanish Wrestling Federation has been collaborating with the UWW in recent years and is paving the way for future generations in Spain. Now more than ever, we realize the importance of sport for all human beings, not only for physical training but for what is most important, mental well-being. We want initiatives of this type in all our National Federations around the world, as it is the first milestone for sports development from the grassroots to the elite.
The president of the Spanish Wrestling Federation, Francisco Javier IGLESIAS SERNA, commented:
«We thank the UWW for their support with the Grassroot Program - Sport for All project, which has helped the development of Olympic wrestling in Spain. Spain is working on future projects in support of the Olympic Wrestling base with the creation of qualifications to encourage young people and the help of sports equipment to clubs, with the support of the base we guarantee better training and greater opportunities for them to young people can reach the technical level with better training.
